Ms. Maier studies the interaction between stress and neural circuits underlying self-control decisions in humans. We aim at modeling differences in networks serving self-control. A typical example for a self-control dilemma in humans is trying to pursue the goal of eating healthy while being tempted by tasty, but less healthy food. To test how self-control behavior and brain activity are changed by stressful experiences, we use functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI).
