David R. Grattan, PhD
University of Otago, Dunedin, New Zealand
Professor; Head of Department of Anatomy
Basic Scientist
Professor Grattan is a neuroendocrinologist, with a particular interest in the reproductive functions of the anterior pituitary hormone prolactin. He is currently investigating the mechanisms by which elevated prolactin (hyperprolactinemia) can inhibit the output of the GnRH neuronal network, resulting in infertility. Related to this, he is also interested in the natural infertility that accompanies lactation. He has developed a number of genetic and molecular biological tools to investigate prolactin action in the brain. Professor Grattan is the current Editor in Chief of the Journal of Neuroendocrinology
