Basic scientist, Clinical investigator
Julie Bakker is a basic scientist interested in elucidating the genetic and neuroendocrine mechanisms underlying the sexual differentiation of the brain. She uses transgenic mouse models to analyze the sexual differentiation of neural circuits underlying reproductive functioning and behavior. She also uses human studies to translate and validate findings obtained in animal models as well as to analyze hormonal and genetic determinants of unique human features such as gender identity. Her research thus comprises a multidisciplinary approach employing molecular, cellular, neuroanatomical and behavior approaches in rodent and human models.
