Prevalence of HIV-related stigma among participants of the Swiss HIV Cohort Study: a pilot study

Eleftheria Kampouri, médecin assistante et chargée de recherche au Service des maladies infectieuses du CHUV, présente ici les résultats d’une étude pilote qui cherche à quantifier la stigmatisation vécue par des personnes vivant avec le VIH en Suisse. 351 personnes vivant avec le VIH ont répondu grâce à une échelle pour mesurer leur stigmatisation en 12 questions, avec deux questions supplémentaires spécifique au contexte de la prise en charge médicale. Les résultats indiquent que la stigmatisation liée au VIH est un enjeu de taille pour toute personne vivant avec ce dernier, peu importe leur appartenance aux différents groupes démographiques. La divulgation du statut VIH+ est une préoccupation importante pour presque 90% des participant·e·s, un résultat qui vient soutenir les propos d’autres présentations de cette conférence.

Prevalence of HIV-related stigma among participants of the Swiss HIV Cohort Study : a pilot study

Eleftheria Kampouri, doctor and research fellow within the Infectious Diseases Department at the University Hospital of Lausanne presents the results of a pilot study, the first stage of a multi-centre cross-sectional study across Switzerland within the Swiss HIV Cohort Study. 351 people living with HIV responded to a validated 12-item stigma scale, with an additional two questions relating specifically to healthcare settings. Results indicate that HIV-related stigma is prevalent across all demographic groups, albeit with some variation between groups. Disclosure of HIV status is found to be of particular concern for respondents, offering further quantitative support for findings noted by other presenters at today’s conference.
