Prof. Benoit GUERY

Prof Benoit Guery is associate Professor of infectious diseases at the University hospital of Lausanne, Switzerland. He is board certified for pneumology, intensive care, and infectious diseases. He is responsible of the hospital general consultation in infectious diseases. Research topics are mainly focused on the gut microbiome and C. difficile infection.

Fecal Microbiota Transplantation Versus Vancomycin or Fidaxomicin in Clostridioides difficile Infection First Episode and First Recurrence: A Randomized Controlled, Open-label, Multicenter Phase III Clinical Trial

The aim of our study is to compare the efficacy and effectiveness of FMT after standard treatment (vancomycin or fidaxomicin) compared to standard treatment alone (vancomycin or fidaxomicin) in patients with a first episode or a first recurrence of CDI.

NCCR Microbiome

The Swiss National Centre of Competence in Research (NCCR) Microbiomes brings together a unique and interdisciplinary research program with experimental and clinical microbiome studies. Combining computational, modeling, engineering and synthetic approaches, the Centre aims to understand the unifying principles of microbiome functioning, to develop tools to diagnose microbiome status, and to devise strategies to intervene and restore imbalanced microbiomes. Its scope encompasses microbial communities in human, animals, plants, as well as in natural and industrial environments.

Our group is involved in the work package 1 which is focusing on human cohorts specifically C. difficile infection and Salmonella infection.

Three projects will be developed in the next 4 years.

• Community coalescence, function, and immune response in successful CDI treatment
• Stability of structure and function of lyophilized gastro-resistant formulation for fecal microbiota transplantation compared to capsules and fresh stools.

Associated Research projects

• Bacteremia and Endocarditis: These projects are coordinated by Dr PD Matthaios Papadimitriou-Olivgeris who is currently working in Sion Hospital. They rely on a retrospective and prospective database and interacts with multicentric project in Switzerland and abroad.
• Intra-abdominal infections: These projects are coordinated by Dr  Florian Desgranges, chef de Clinique in CHUV. These projects are designed to provide clinical guidelines to optimize IAI treatment.
