Headed by Meritxell Bach Cuadra, PhD , the Medical Image Analysis Laboratory of University of Lausanne (UNIL) and Lausanne University Hospital (CHUV) is one of the research groups of the Department of Radiology jointly with the CIBM Center of Biomedical Imaging.
Our research group focuses on developing innovative image processing methods to enhance the use of emerging medical imaging technologies. We balance fundamental research in image processing and machine learning with application-oriented projects. We prioritize responsible artificial intelligence by incorporating techniques for uncertainty, explainability, and interpretability to ensure trustworthy machine learning for diagnosis, prognosis, and therapy planning. We also address domain shifts and use causal modeling frameworks to mitigate biases in radiological healthcare. Specifically, we develop methods for image quality control, reconstruction, segmentation, and classification tasks applied to diverse domains such as early brain development, multiple sclerosis, and eye MRI, etc. Our goal is to promote true clinical adoption of our methods and tools through translational research and strong interdisciplinary collaboration between engineers and clinicians.
