Infrastructures

Our department is equipped with state-of-the-art research equipment. This equipment is available for investigators within the department, within the CHUV and can also be accessed by external researchers on specific conditions.

CIBM research equipment

  • 3T high-performance magnetic resonance scanner (Magnetom Prisma, Siemens Heathineers) – available for research every afternoon
  • 0.55T high-performance low-field MRI scanner (Magnetom Free.Max, Siemens Healthineers) – available all day, every day  
  • MRI accessories
    • Injector pump, with the CIBM
    • ISMRM-NIST quantitative MR phantom
    • Small animal RF coil and monitoring system
    • Moving phantom for accurately simulating motion
    • Carotid RF coils, 1H and 19F
    • External physiological monitoring unit
    • Projector, screen, and mirrors for visual fMRI
    • fMRI hardware: in-ear system for auditory stimulation, microphone with noise cancellation; input devices: 4X2 buttons, trackball, pad for finger tapping, joystick, eye-tracking, syncbox, goggles with integrated eye-tracking camera
    • Three dedicated high-end image reconstruction workstations

Neurophysiology labs

  • 3 high-density EEG laboratories (among which one is mobile)
  • 1 TMS laboratory
  • 1 psychophysics laboratory with eye-tracking, motion-tracking, VR/AR headsets

Compute and storage for research

CHUV cluster (running costs covered by department)

  • HPC GPU node 1 : 2x Intel Xeon Gold 6148 CPU (40 cores), 1TB RAM, with  4x Nvidia RTX2080, 1x Nvidia V100 (reserved for radiology department)
  • HPC GPU node 2: 2x AMD Epyc 7742 CPU (128 cores), 2 TB RAM, with 2x Nvidia rtx3090 (reserved for radiology department)
  • HPC CPU nodes (12 available, total 192 cores): each 2x Xeon E5-2650 v2 CPU (16 cores), 128 GB RAM (available for whole hospital)
  • Storage : shared storage 3 TB + per-group SSD storage + connection to UNIL storage

University of Lausanne cluster (running costs covered by each user’s project)

  • HPC CPU nodes (16 available, total 768 cores) : 2x AMD Epyc3 7443 CPU (48 cores), 1 TB RAM
  • HPC GPU nodes (2 available) : each 2x AMD Epyc3 7443 CPU (48 cores), 1 TB RAM, 2x Nvidia A100
  • Storage 1 PB, low cost

Both clusters are authorized for use with sensitive data, and use the Slurm workload management system.

Clinical equipment that can be used for research upon special arrangement

    • Over 20 ultrasound machines for diagnostic, and interventional purposes.
