Succeeding Prof. Richard Frackowiak from 1 January 2015, Pr. Ryvlin has been appointed Head of the Department Clinical Neuroscience (DNC).
With the aim of continuing to develop and ensure the optimal management of this fast-growing department – one of the hospital's five poles of excellence – the CHUV and DNC Managements decided to create two separate positions. This led to the appointment on 1 January 2015 of Pr. Renaud Du Pasquier, as Service Head, and of Pr. Philippe Ryvlin, as Department Head.
Pr. Philippe Ryvlin, who has been appointed a full professor at the University of Lausanne, was until now Head of the Functional Neurology and Epilepsy Service at the Hospices Civils in Lyon, France, and Joint Head of the Institute of Epilepsy and the Laboratory for Integrative and Translational Research in Epileptology, also in Lyon. He has also held numerous appointments with international responsibilities, such as the Chair of the European Association of Video-EEG Monitoring Units or the Joint Headship of the European Network of Research in Epileptology.
Pr. Ryvlin, who was impressed by the CHUV's development strategy in the field of clinical neuroscience and enthusiastic about the remarkable progress of this discipline in the Lake Geneva region, has the mission of bringing closer together the teams working in neurology, neurosurgery, neuropsychology and neuro-rehabilitation as well as at the Leenaards Memory Centre and the new Neuroscience Research Centre. His arrival at the CHUV will also strengthen the epilepsy pole and the DNC's international reputation.
