Dr Nicola Pluchino

Senior registrar

Head of the Fertility Medicine and Gynaecological Endocrinology Unit

Dr Pluchino is originally from Italy and studied medicine in Pisa, where he qualified as a specialist in gynaecology and obstetrics in 2008. He honed his clinical experience during numerous fellowships worldwide, including at the Rotunda Maternity Hospital in Dublin, in gynaecology and obstetrics at the University of Prague and at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York.

In 2012, he was awarded a PhD in reproductive medicine from the University of Pisa, which is a leading centre in the field.

In 2013, he joined Geneva University Hospitals (HUG), initially as head clinician, before being promoted to registrar in 2017. In 2016, he co-founded and took on responsibility for the first specialist endometriosis centre in French-speaking Switzerland. His fascination with the disease and cutting-edge knowledge of it enable him to carry out complex surgery on patients suffering from severe symptoms.

From an academic point of view, he was a Visiting Professor at Yale University in the United States between 2015 and 2016, and a Privat-Docent (2019) and later (2021) part-time lecturer at the University of Geneva.

Dr Pluchino is also heavily involved in research. He has authored over 120 scientific papers and contributed to several books in the field of reproductive medicine and endometriosis.

In October 2022, he was appointed deputy Professor at Humanitas University in Milan, Europe's leading centre for medically assisted reproduction.

“I want all women and couples who come to an appointment in the Fertility Medicine Unit at CHUV because they have an issue with infertility, endometriosis or gynaecological endocrinology to receive the best possible personalised, integrated treatment, by offering a vast range of medical and surgical skills and services, including medically assisted reproduction.”
