Swiss BioMotion Lab

The Swiss BioMotion Lab (SBML) was founded in 2014 to improve the understanding, prevention, and treatment of musculoskeletal disorders. It is active in therapeutic management, research, and teaching.

Headed by PD Dr Julien Favre and Pr Dr Brigitte Jolles-Haeberli, the Swiss BioMotion Lab is part of the Department of Musculoskeletal Medicine (“Département de l’Appareil Locomoteur”, DAL) at the Lausanne University Hospital (“Centre Hospitalier Universitaire Vaudois”, CHUV) and University of Lausanne (UNIL).

The Swiss BioMotion Lab is deeply translational and multidisciplinary. It has a strong expertise in a range of complementary fields, including biomechanics, orthopedic surgery, imaging, biomedical engineering, and data sciences. This strength reflects in its team, counting medical doctors, engineers, and physiotherapists.

The laboratory also distinguishes itself with a state-of-the-art facility for movement analysis and rehabilitation used conjointly for clinic and research. Although driven by pathologies of the musculoskeletal system, the knowhow developed over the years has proven to be valuable for other medical conditions and sport applications, as well.

Today, the Swiss BioMotion Lab has grown as a leader in the musculoskeletal field and has built a rich collaborative network around its core expertise.
