Biography

Dr Favre received an Electrical Engineering Degree and PhD Degree in Biomechanics from the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) in 2003 and 2008, respectively. His doctoral research primarily focused on the development of methods to analyze lower-limb movement and on the study of the knee function during walking.

After his PhD, Dr Favre moved to Stanford University where he continued his research on knee mechanics and osteoarthritis. During his 5 years stay in California, he also started working with biomedical imaging, particularly to quantify cartilage thickness. In 2014, he joined the Lausanne University Hospital (CHUV), as co-Director of the Gait Laboratory.

He co-founded the Swiss BioMotion lab (SBML) later that year and has been co-leading this laboratory since then, with Professor Jolles-Haeberli. In 2018, he was appointed as Senior Lecturer and Privat-docent (PD) at the University of Lausanne (UNIL).

Research

Dr Favre studies human movement from different perspectives. He is particularly interested in movement analysis and rehabilitation, in the relationships between movement and joint structures, and in movement behavior. His work is highly translational, spanning from method developments to large cohort studies. His research covers multiple medical conditions, with a focus on musculoskeletal disorders. Over the last years he has been especially active on the development of a general framework for knee osteoarthritis.

Publications

Dr Favre co-authored more than one hundred journal articles and received several national and international awards.
